For Paper One, I've divided the strategy into 3 of the most important stage :
1) Read all the NCERTs
2) Read all the basic books, a note of which has been menntioned in the booklist section of the website.
3) Solve as my questions before the exam. I used to solve atleast 8-10k questions before any exam to get a decisive edge over the other competitors. Remember, any UPSC exam is not just a test of knowledge, it is also a fierce competition. So, your rank depends on how good you are in comparison to your competitors.
Also, the more questions you solve in practice, the higher the probability of getting the intelligent guesses right.
For Paper Two, I've divided the strategy into 2 of the most important stages :
1) Practice as much essay writing as you can. Also, practice reports and precis once in a while.
2) Go for a time bound practice.
3) Solve as my questions before the exam.
4) Start reading newspapers and try to make your own mini dictionary comprising all the new words you learn in a given day.
5) Peer-to-peer review of essays.
6) Peer discussion(Time bound) in which you can get a practice of all the new words learnt in a single day and you will be in practice for the last question in the paper - Grammatical section.
In Paper 2, the impostant things are content and speed. If you are unable to finish the paper in stipulated time, consider yourself out of the race already. So, practice hard to avoid such a situation.
